New program developments at the Medicine Buddha Healing Center

The Medicine Buddha Healing Center is beginning a program of expanded services. For four years we had the professional services of doctors provided by

Men-Tsee-Khang, the Medical College of H. H. the Dalai Lama. When Dr. Karma Dolma’s contract ended in September 2006, Men-Tsee-Khang had a shortage of doctors and could no longer staff the Medicine Buddha Healing Center.

After nine months of discussions with Men-Tsee-Khang and individuals in the USA and India we have worked out an independent contractual arrangement with

Dr. Yangbum Gyal, who has been working in Bloomington, IN.  As of July 1, 2007, he became resident professional at the Medicine Buddha Healing Center.

Dr. Gyal was born in Amdo, Tibet. He received his degrees and training in Traditional Tibetan Medical Science both in Tibet and in Dharamsala, India. He has studied under prominent and legendary doctors Yig Nyen and Tenzin Choedrak.

Dr. Gyal served as a resident doctor, medical research fellow and professor at the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute (Men-Tsee-Khang) in Dharamsala, India, and also served as resident doctor at the Hargay Health Center in Amdo, Tibet. He had taught Tibetan language and topics on Tibetan Medicine at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He is now serving as the USA Coordinator for the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, Dharamsala, India. He has authored TIBETAN MEDICAL DIETARY BOOK: VOL I, THE POTENCY AND PREPARATIONS OF VEGETABLES and has published and presented papers on Tibetan medicine and other related topics. He has held workshops on Tibetan medicine in the Midwest area and has made medical tours to various parts of India and Japan.

Dr. Gyal offers a traditional Tibetan medical healing approach with an assortment of herbal remedies, personalized dietary and lifestyle advice, Kum-Nye (Tibetan massage), body-mind therapy and other therapeutic treatments.

Initially Dr. Gyal will be seeing clients at the Medicine Buddha Healing Center, Spring Green, most weeks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Please call 608-583-4241 for appointments. Plans are in progress to continue service for Dr Gyal’s patients in Indiana and Ohio as well.

Dr. Gyal will conduct classes on the application of Tibetan medicine for various health conditions.  See the schedule posted on our web site for subjects and dates. (www.mahadharma.org) Additional program offerings are under discussion. Watch our website for announcements.
